"Esoteric Astrology" by Alice A. Bailey

Alice Bailey's (AB) classic text "Esoteric Astrology". Written as part of the 'treatise on the seven rays' this work was the result of a telepathic communication between AB and "The Tibetan" (Master DK) At the time of writing it was said that humanity didn't have the consciousness to comprehend it, and it would take Astrologers of the future to interpret it's full meaning...

"Soul-Centered Astrology: A Key To Your Expanding Self" by Alan Oken

In addition to being a most thorough guide to interpreting horoscopes from a Soul Centered perspective, this book gives a clear and concise understanding of astrology as a valid wisdom tradition, illuminating our understanding of ourselves as both spiritual and light beings. Another classic from Master Astrologer (and the world's foremost Soul Astrologer), Alan Oken.

"Alan Oken's Complete Astrology" by Alan Oken

Alan Oken's seminal text is a compilation of three earlier works. An excellent textbook providing a complete and thorough foundation for anyone studying Western Astrology.

"Houses of The Horoscope: An Introduction" by Alan Oken

For those wanting to study astrology in a little more depth, Master Astrologer Alan Oken presents a thorough grounding in the meaning of the houses in his typically clear and lucid style.

"Rulers of The Horoscope: Finding Your Way Through The Labyrinth" by Alan Oken

An excellent intermediate astrology book. This book takes you from beginners' level and gives you the tools to start methodically and clearly deliniating horoscopes in an orderly and consistent manner. Alan Oken's clear and lucid style is very helpful in cutting through the 'labyrinth' (as he calls it) so you develop a sense of methodology and priority in your astrological analysis.

Highly Recommended!

To accompany any (or all) of Alan Oken's clear and comprehensive astrological textbooks (above) there is now an equally clear and detailed series of lectures and webinars available on his website at  http://www.alanoken.com

"Stephen Arroyo's Chart Interpretation Handbook: Guidelines For Understanding The Essentials of the Birth Chart" by Stephen Arroyo

I love this book! This is a must for astrologers at all levels to have in their collection. When I was nursing we had lots of in-depth textbooks on every subject, but on a day to day basis you always dipped into 'The Nurses Pocket Dictionary', which you carried everywhere you went. (At least until the dog chewed mine!) This is that kind of book. You will read all the in-depth astrology textbooks and articles and at the end of the day when you have forgotten what you read and need a quick reference - this is the book that will bring you home!

"Astrology, Karma and Transformation: Inner Dimensions of The Birth Chart" by Stephen Arroyo

Some astrologers just resonate more than others. Stephen Arroyo is one of those. As an internationally renowned pioneer of in-depth astrology, he holds an MA degree in psychology, has a busy counselling practice offering psychological and astrological counselling, and has taught astrology classes in American colleges. With great clarity in this book he shares deep insights into the planets of transformation, and their role in our spiritual development .

"Myriad Worlds: Buddhist Cosmology in Abhidharma, Kalachakra and Dzogchen" by Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Taye

This book presents three different cosmologies within the Tibetan Buddhist view. My interest in the Tibetan cosmologies stems from the fact that the Master DK, who transmitted the "Treatise on the Seven Rays" (which includes "Esoteric Astrology") to Alice Bailey, referred to himself as 'The Tibetan' and some scholars believe there is evidence to suggest that he was Abbot of Tashi Lhunpo monastery near Shigatse in Tibet. So it's logical to deduce that whomever the Tibetan really was, he would have understood that there is not just one 'fixed' cosmology.

This book is important in showing that there is no 'absolute' objective cosmology, as contemporary science would imply but that any cosmology is a reflection of our current consciousness. All cosmologies, and their corresponding astrological systems, are therefore about humanity's perception. Soul Astrologer Alan Oken (above) cautions us not to 'mix our cosmologies' otherwise it leads to confusion. It has been said 'there are as many worlds as there are minds to create them', while the great sage Ramana Maharshi reminds us 'there are no levels of reality, only levels of experience for the individual'. Western Astrology is therefore an astrology of Archetypes that reflects the individualization process in contemporary western society, just as our current western 'scientific' cosmology mirrors the search for 'absolute objectivity' in contemporary western science.

This book is a sound reminder of why astrology works within the context of the culture from which it arose, while at the same time reminding us not to try and 'homogenize' Chinese, Tibetan, Indian and Western Astrological systems since each is intricately associated with a unique cosmology and even in Tibet alone it is recognized that different levels of consciousness produce different cosmologies!

"Transpersonal Astrology: The Astrology of Purpose" by Errol Weiner

A fortuitous and synchronistic meeting with the author at Scotland's Findhorn community, led me to revisit the wisdom of Astrology from a Soul Centered perspective. Errol is a knowledgeable astrologer who is passionate about the Full Moon meditations (described in the work of Alice Bailey) as a key part of our spiritual journey.

"The Labours of Hercules: An Astrological Interpretation" by Alice Bailey

This could possibly be one of the most important books for future astrologers. It gives a vivid account of the journey of the soul as it incarnates progressively through the twelve signs of the Zodiac. The labours that Hercules is required to perform symbolise the specific challenges that face all disciples as they seek to equip themselves to better serve their fellow human beings. Whilst interesting merely from a mythological standpoint alone, I believe deeper study revelas this book to be a metaphor for the developmental stages of a human 'soul' or 'light body'. This is a must for anyone who is serious about understanding astrology as a language of energy in general, and light in particular.

I am of the opinion that in this book (together with it's companion volume "Esoteric Astrology" by Alice Bailey - above) the Tibetan Master DK is describing a physiology of consciousness. In other words: a mechanism of how consciousness itself manifests as physical phenomena, through the interaction of light. For example, in "Esoteric Astrology" the Tibetan proposes that the soul begins as "a point of light in the mind of God" in Aries, then that point of light becomes a "beam of Light " in Taurus, and that beam of light becomes "multiple rays of light" in Gemini and so forth, while in this volume we can see some of the qualities and challenges that might arise during these 'stages of soul development'.

"Chiron and The Healing Journey" by Melanie Reinhart

As humanity evolves in consciousness, more of 'all that is' is revealed to us, and we are given exactly the wisdom we need for our spiritual growth. As we begin to interpret astrology from a spiritual perspective factors such as Chiron, and it's meaning for us as individuals, become increasingly relevant. Melanie Reinhart's groundbreaking book is still one of the most authoritative texts on the meaning and interpretation of Chiron in the natal chart. This essential and very practical text is sure to become a future classic!

"Incarnation" by Melanie Reinhart

Melanie Reinhart is one of my favorite teachers of astrology. This book is transcribed from a series of seminars she gave on the topic of the Moon's nodes and the angles. In her inimitable style she weaves the personal and the transpersonal together into one cohesive whole. In this book, as with most of her work, you can deeply understand your psychology, understand your transpersonal nature, and see your own potential for healing.

"Chiron, Pholus and Nessus:To The Edge And Beyond" by Melanie Reinhart

Although I've always included Chiron in my readings, the scampering (or should I say marauding) Centaurs really entered my life when Nessus was conjunct my natal Chiron, activating a powerful t-square with Venus and Pluto. At which time I created Astrology-Symbols.com because an unfamiliar glyph (Nessus) led me to a comprehensive internet search! Enjoy… and discover what "the buck stops here" might mean for you!
